Absorptance
The degree to which light (electromagnetic radiation) is absorbed as it passes through glass.
Acrylic
Acrylic glass is an alternative to standard window glass and possesses different properties. Acrylic glass is:

  • Half the density of glass
  • Shatter-proof
  • Easily formed into complex shapes
Acrylic glass allows more light and UV rays into a room. Acrylic glass can be glued together to form an almost invisible, weatherproof, bond. Its lower density allows for larger sheets or windows to be manufactured such as picture windows. Acrylic is softer than glass and can get scratched, although protective coatings are available. In cases where glass windows may be too heavy or may be at risk of shattering, acrylic windows can offer an alternative solution
Aerogel
Aerogel, specifically silica aerogel in regards to windows, is commercially used as a thermal insulation material for windows and skylights in particular. Aerogel is a clear, highly porous solid with properties that prevent conduction, convection, and radiation. Because of these properties, aerogel is a popular material for reducing energy costs.
Air Leakage
Air leakage is the amount of air seeping into a building through cracks and poorly fitting doors and windows.
